There’s no shortage of new and exciting K-dramas to check out this year

2024 is shaping up to be a great year for K-drama fans. With new K-dramas like Queen of Tears, Mask Girl, Crash Course in Romance and The Killing Vote taking the world by storm last year, it’s clear that the K-drama industry is thriving with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. This year, we see plenty of new additions ranging from webtoon adaptations to new seasons of our favourite series. 

From historical fantasies to romance, there is something for every K-drama lover. Below, we share some of the most highly anticipated K-dramas we’re adding to our binge-watch list this year.

1. Family by Choice

Based on Chinese drama Go Ahead, this K-drama follows best friend trio Kim San-ha, Yoon Joo-won and Kang Hae-joon. Friends since they were young, the trio find themselves meeting again ten years later. The new series features an exciting cast featuring True Beauty’s Hwang In-youp, The King’s Affection’s Jung Chae-yeon and Love Playlist’s Bae Hyun-sung.

2. Spice Up Our Love

This romance fantasy drama sees successful romance web novelist Nam Ja-yeon who transforms into the female lead of her latest novel Seo Yeon-seo. We watch as Seo fall in love with the novel’s male lead Kang Ha-joon. She tries to rebel against her own plot in hopes of going back to the real world.

3. A Virtuous Business

A Virtuous Business tells the story of the Bangpan Sisters, four women who sell products from door to door in a rural village. Taking place in 1992, the series has themes of independence, growth and friendship.

4. The Judge from Hell

Doctor Slump’s Park Shin-hye plays elite judge Kang Bit-na in this new legal drama. While Kang is known for her looks, not many know that she’s a demon with a mission to send evildoers to hell. When Kang meets Han Da-on, a friendly and sharp detective, both their lives start changing drastically.

5. Seoul Busters

Dongbang Yoo-bin is a professor at a prestigious university outside South Korea. After turning down a lifetime faculty position at the university, he returns to South Korea to volunteer as the chief of Violent Crimes Unit 2 at Songwon Police Station. Throughout the series, we see Dongbang attempt to turn the unit into one of the best.

6. Gyeongseong Creature Season 2

This historical mystery thriller starring Park Seo-joon returned for its second season this month. Set in 1945, the drama follows Jang Tae-sang and Yoon Chae-ok as they encounter strange creatures while surviving in the city. The second season takes us to present-day Korea where Yoon meets Ho-jae, Jang’s doppelgänger. The season sees the duo work together to solve unanswered questions from the past.

7. Queen Woo

This historical drama follows the story of Woo Hee, the empress of Goguryeo who becomes the target of princes and tribes following the death of her husband and King of Gorguryeo. We see a fierce battle for control ensue as a new King needs to be established within 24 hours of the King’s death. The Call’s Jeong Jong-seo stars as Queen Woo, alongside Smile Again’s Ji Chang-wook and Doom at Your Service’s Lee Soo-hyun.

8. Bad Memory Eraser

This K-drama follows tennis player Lee Goon who erases his memory after getting injured and losing his self-esteem. We follow Lee as he rebuilds his tennis career, with the help of his lover and psychiatrist Kyeong Joo-yeon. Korean pop group JYJ’s Kim Jae-joong plays Lee in this romance drama and stars alongside Doctor Stranger’s Jin Se-yeon. 

9. No Gain, No Love

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’s Shin Min-a plays Son Hae-yeong in this new romantic comedy. Son is known for her aversion to losing money and her calculated approach to life and relationships. So, when she is faced with the threat of losing a job promotion, Son devises a plan to fake a wedding to secure her position at work. She recruits part-time cashier Kim Ji-uk to pose as her fiance.

10. The Frog

Directed by Mo Wan Il, this mystery thriller revolves around Gu Sang-joon and Jeon Young-ha. Set in two different timelines, Gu operates a motel in a rural area in 2000 while Jeon runs a pension in the forest in 2021. Throughout the series, we see their lives intertwined in mysterious ways.

11. Cinderella at 2 AM

Cinderella at 2 AM centres around Ha Yoon-seo and Seo Joo-won. Ha has built a respectable life for herself since leaving her family due to domestic violence. As they begin dating, Ha learns that Seo is the son of the chaebol family that runs the company in which they both work. The plot thickens as Seo’s mother intervenes in the relationship, offering Ha money to end the relationship. However, Seo is determined to win her back and change her mind about their future together. The upcoming drama stars Hospital Playlist’s Shin Hyun-been and Under the Queen’s Umbrella’s Moon Sang-min.

12. Red Swan

If you’re looking for a suspenseful drama with a touch of romance and revenge, Red Swan is for you. In this series, Ditto’s Kim Ha-neul stars as Oh Wan-soo, a former golf champion turned socialite who has been assigned a new bodyguard Seo Do-yoon. With the help of Seo, she uncovers secrets about her powerful family, and her seemingly perfect life begins to crumble. 

13. Good Partner

This legal drama follows two lawyers, pragmatic veteran Cha Eun-kyung and idealistic rookie Han Yoo-ri. The duo find themselves forced to work together to tackle challenging cases while navigating the complexities of the legal system. The latest drama boasts a powerful female cast, including Hello Monster’s Jang Na-ra and 100 Days My Prince’s Nam Ji-hyun.

14. The Auditors

Beyond Evil’s Shin Ha-kyun plays team leader Shin Cha-il in the upcoming workplace drama. Shin leads a team of government auditors tasked to investigate a powerful conglomerate rumoured to be riddled with corruption. We find his world colliding with Goo Han-soo, a rookie auditor with a naive optimism. The duo begin uncovering corporate greed, challenging authority and fighting for a just financial world.

15. No Way Out: The Roulette

When heinous criminal Kim Gook-ho (played by Yoo Jae-myung) is released from prison, South Korea goes into chaos when a 20 billion won bounty is placed on his head by a mysterious figure known as The Masked Man. Detective Baek Joon-sik (played by Cho Jin-woong) finds himself in an unenviable position of protecting the criminal he once pursued.

16. Hierarchy

The latest Netflix drama revolves around wealthy students in the elite Joshing High School in South Korea. The social order gets threatened when new student Kang Ha transfers and exposes a dark secret. The series stars Phantom Detective’s No Jeong-ee, King the Land’s Kim Jae-won and Its Okay to Not Be Okay’s Ji Hye-won.

17. The Player 2: Master of Swindlers

A sequel to the 2018 drama The Player, this latest K-drama follows a group of con artists who take on wealthy villains and criminals. Through the heist drama, anticipate exciting action sequences, car chases and intricate cons. Apart from an exciting plot, look forward to a stellar cast, including Black Knight’s Song Seung-heon, Hotel Del Luna’s Lee Si-un and Its Okay to Not Be Okay’s Jang Gyu-ri.

18. The Whirlwind

This political drama follows a rivalry between Prime Minister of South Korea Park Dong-ho and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs’s Jung Soo-jin. A conflict arises when Jung is determined to stop Park, who aims to assassinate the president to root out corruption. In this series, Park is played by veteran actor Sol Kyung-gu while Queenmaker’s Kim Hee-ae will star as Jung.

19. Miss Night and Day

Another romantic comedy to add to your must-watch list, Miss Night and Day follows Lee Min-jin, a single woman struggling to find work. She finds herself waking up in the body of a 50-year-old woman while returning to her younger self at night. Her unusual condition lands her a job with a prosecutor. The highly anticipated series has a stellar cast including Parasite’s Lee Jung-eun, Reply 1994’s Jung Eun-ji and Pride and Prejudice’s Choi Jin-hyuk.

20. The 8 Show

Fans of the 2021 hit K-drama Squid Game will want to add this new series to their must-watch list. Directed by Emergency Declaration’s Han Jae-rim, The 8 Show is based on popular webtoons Money Game and Pi Game. The new thriller dark comedy follows eight people who have been invited to appear on the reality show Money Game. To win the prize money, the contestants will need to stay in an eight-storey building for 100 days. The series features a star-studded cast including Delightfully Deceitful’s Chun Woo-hee, The King’s Ryu Jun-yeol, and My Mister’s Park Hae-joon.

21. Uncle Samsik

Set in the early 1960s, this drama puts the spotlight on the friendship between Park Doo-Chil (better known as Uncle Samsik) and Kim San. We see the duo form an alliance as they dream of changing the country for the better. The new series stars Parasite’s Kang Ho-song and Mr Sunshine’s Byun Yo-han.

22. The Atypical Family

This ongoing K-drama follows a family with supernatural powers. However, due to ailments and incompatibilities with modern lifestyles, their superpower abilities were lost. The family’s life changes when they cross paths with the mysterious Do Da-hae (played by Delightfully Deceitful’s Chun Woo-hee).

23. The Midnight Romance in Hagwon

Squid Game’s Wi Ha-joon plays academy teacher Lee Jun-ho in the latest romantic K-drama. When he returns to his old academy as a teacher he meets Seo Hye-jin, his former academy teacher and first love. We see Seo’s life get shaken up upon Lee’s return to the academy. Starring alongside Wi is May It Please the Court’s Jung Ryeo-won and A Life So Beautiful’s So Joo-yeon.

24. Frankly Speaking

DP’s Go Kyung-pyo and Start-Up’s Kang Han-na star in this new romantic comedy. The former plays Song Ki-baek, a TV station announcer who develops a disorder causing him to speak without thinking while the latter plays a variety show writer On Woo-ju who invites him on her show. Throughout the series we see the duo work together while Song learns to live with his new disorder.

25. Parasyte: The Grey

Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho has released his latest drama series Parasyte: The Grey. The new series is a reimagination of classic Japanese manga Parasyte which sees mysterious parasitic human-eating creatures falling to earth and begin living off human hosts. Throughout the series, we follow parasitic life team The Grey as they plan to exterminate these parasites. The latest series features Our Blooming Youth’s Jeon So-nee, DP’s Koo Kyo-hwan and Flex X Cop’s Kwon Hae-hyo.

26. Lovely Runner

Based on popular webtoon Tomorrow’s Best, this time-slip romance drama follows unfolds as fan girl Im Sol gets transported back 15 years into the past to save her favourite idol Ryu Sun-jae from death. We see Im trying to grapple with the challenges of altering the future. The highly anticipated drama has a stellar cast, including Sky Castle’s Kim Hye-yoon and Record of Youth’s Byeon Woo-seok.

27. Chief Detective 1958

A prequel to the classic drama Chief Detective, this crime series follows detective Park Young-han (Taxi Driver’s Lee Je-hoon) and his team who catch petty thieves. As he makes his way to the top, he also goes up against corruption. While the original drama is set in the 1970s and 1980s, the latest series will be set in 1958.

28. Blood Free

This futuristic thriller K-drama takes place in 2025 when genetic engineering enterprise BF creates genetically engineered cultured meat to end the consumption of animal flesh among humans. The company’s CEO Yoon Ja-yoo gets entangled in a mysterious death case as people inside and outside the company begin questioning her actions. The series stars Brilliant Legacy’s Han Hyo-joo, Kingdom’s Ju Ji-hoon and The World of the Married’s Lee Moo-saeng.

29. Queen of Tears

Marriage isn’t always smooth sailing, even in this latest K-drama series. We follow the love story between Hong Hae-in and Baek Hyun-woo. Hong is a third-generation chaebol heiress of Queens Group who is known for her cold demeanour while Baek is the legal director for the group who grew up in the countryside. Throughout the series, we see them face obstacles and trials which open their eyes towards each other.

30. Wonderful World

Following the tragic loss of her son, psychology professor and famous writer Eun Soo-hyun decides to pursue justice on her own. Throughout the series, we see Eun get involved with others who suffer similar pain and help to solve their mysterious cases. On top of an exciting plot, the K-drama also features a stellar cast, starring actors including Model’s Kim Nam-joo, True Beauty’s Im Se-mi and Gangnam Beauty’s Cha Eun-woo.

31. The Impossible Heir

This highly anticipated K-drama will see Alchemy of Souls’s Lee Jae-wook star as Han Tae-oh, a high school student with a dark background. Han befriends Kang In-ha (played by South Korean singer and rapper Lee Jun-young), an illegitimate child of a wealthy chaebol family. They grow close throughout their childhood and as adults, they plan to succeed in life and change their fate. A love triangle is formed when they meet Na Hye-won, who joins them on their journey to success.

32. A Killer Paradox

Adapted from the webtoon of the same name, this K-drama follows university student Lee Tang (played by Parasite’s Choi Woo-shik) who kills a person who he discovers is a serial killer. This prompts a change in Lee as he decides to commit more murders. As this happens, he is being hunted by a tenacious police detective, played by DP 2’s Son Suk-ku.

33. Midnight Photo Studio

Described as a healing romance, this series sees Seo Ki-joo, a lonely photographer who runs a small photo studio that helps souls find refuge. He ends up meeting Han Bom, a lawyer who suffers from financial struggles. Throughout the series, we see the duo begin a partnership, helping lost souls find peace. Anticipate an exciting cast, including Itaewon Class’s Kwon Nara, Good Doctor’s Joo Won, The Uncanny Counter’s Yoo In-soo, and The Fiery Priest’s Eum Moon-suk. 

34. Marry My Husband

Based on the webtoon Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejweo, this romance k-drama follows Kang Ji-won (Park Min-Young) whose marriage is suffering due to her husband Park Min-hwan’s (Lee Yi Kyung) infidelity with her friend Jung Soo-min (Song Ha-yoon). While in a physical struggle with the pair, Kang is killed by her husband in the process. However, she wakes up 10 years in the past and attempts to change her life while trying to get revenge on Park.

35. Love Song for Illusion

This historical fantasy romance follows Sajo Hyun (Park Ji-hoon), a crown prince with two personalities: Sajo Hyun and Ak-hee. As Sajo, he works as a fashion designer while hiding his identity as a crown prince. Meanwhile as Ak-hee, he is a man who makes people fall in love with him but is cursed to feel pain when he touches others. As Ak-hee, he falls in love with Yeon Wol (Hong Ye-ji), a young woman on a quest for revenge.

36. Flex X Cop

Itaewon Class’s Ahn Bo-hyun plays a third-generation chaebol in this action-comedy drama. Pursuing his career as a detective, he joins the Kangha Police Station’s violent crimes department, led by veteran detective Lee Gang-hyun (Park Ji-hyun). Throughout the series, the duo work together as partners as they solve crimes.

37. Queen of Divorce

Queen of Divorce follows divorce lawyers Kim Sa-ra and Dong Ki-joon as they work together to get justice for those suffering through difficult divorces. Kim is a former daughter-in-law of a prominent law family while Kang was a former prosecutor. Throughout the series, we also see the two form a romance with each other. Anticipate a stellar cast, including The Uncanny Encounter’s Kang Ki-young as Dong and The Penthouse’s Lee Ji-ah as Kim.

38. Knight Flower

Transporting us to the Joseon era in Korea, Knight Flower follows Jo Yeon-hwa (Lee Hanee) a widow by day and vigilante by night. While taking care of people in need at night, she gets involved with senior officer Park Soo-ho (Lee Jong-won). As the duo form a bond, Jo begins dreaming of a future with Park.
