Historically, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has featured a line-up of prominent artists who provide a live soundtrack as the models grace the runway. A-listers such as Taylor Swift, Arianna Grande, Selena Gomez and Rihanna have all taken up the gig at different times.

During the last show in 2018, Halsey rocked the stage with her chart-topping hit Without Me (2018), adorned in an angelic all-white ensemble.

Since debuting as a member of Blackpink, Lisa has carved a unique niche in the entertainment industry, showcasing her exceptional dance skills and spreading her cultural influence worldwide.

This aligns with the fashion industry’s expectations around representation and diversity, reflecting a broader cultural shift towards inclusivity.

The Victoria’s Secret runway show, which began in 1995, was once a highly influential fashion event, captivating millions worldwide. In recent years, however, the brand has faced backlash for its lack of inclusivity and diversity, particularly due to controversies surrounding the objectification of women and former marketing director Ed Razek’s negative comments on plus-size and transgender models. As a result of declining ratings, the show has been on hiatus for six years.

In response, the brand is undergoing a profound transformation, striving to redefine its identity by embracing women from diverse backgrounds and body types, and launching more inclusive lingerie collections.

Inviting Lisa, who is an advocate for diversity and empowerment, aligns seamlessly with the brand’s renewed mission. As the only member of Blackpink from Thailand, Lisa represents a beacon of diversity and talent from the region.

Notably, she made headlines by featuring three transgender influencers, Chinnawat Promsri, Bruze Kachi-Sarah and Aëffy, in her music video Rockstar (2024). This choice not only highlights Lisa’s support for the LGBTQ community but also resonates with a landmark moment in her home country where same-sex marriage was recently legalised.

Working with Lisa allows Victoria’s Secret to engage with younger clientele

Lisa is undoubtedly a youth icon across the world. In recent years, western audiences have also sat up and taken notice of her talent. The megastar became the first solo artist to win the “Best K-pop Trophy” in the MTV Video Music Awards in 2022 and 2024. Her stunning performance at Crazy Horse Paris in 2023 further showcased her star power.

In February, she was cast in season 3 of The White Lotus (2021-present), the acclaimed HBO black comedy series.

This huge popularity that Lisa enjoys—especially among Gen Z and millennials—helps Victoria’s Secret connect with younger audiences who value diversity, authenticity and modern representation in fashion.
